Our Namesake
My grandfather, Enam, grew up in a small Indian village under the British Raj. With no running water and no heat, a failed monsoon season meant drought and the need to take on odd jobs to survive.
But he had a burning drive to get an education. In some seasons, he cooked for his teachers to earn his board and tuition. Through sheer determination, he became one of the top performers in Bihar Province and earned a place to study electrical engineering at the Bihar Institute of Technology.
Once there, he faced a new obstacle. He could not enter the electrical engineering labs because he did not own a pair of pants. He had only his local dress, kurta-pajamas. His friends came together to help him buy some clothes, which he accepted with gratitude.
That single challenge did not stop him. He went on to graduate at the top of his class, completed a PhD, and ultimately returned to the same university, this time as a professor of Electrical Engineering.
We named this company Enam Co. because his life embodied the company's thesis: grit, technical excellence, and the refusal to accept institutional barriers as fixed.
We saw our own version of this at Cresta. When we began evangelizing our approach, many large enterprises were too obtuse, political, and rigid to adopt it.
In effect, the software was not wearing the right pants.
So we found another way.
We bought and transformed our first company. Now we are onto our next.
That is why we are called Enam Co.
Because there is another way if you are willing to persevere long enough to build it.
